Why I Write My Stories
After I began sharing my stories on Facebook someone asked me, “Why are you writing these stories about the Vietnam War? Especially fifty years after the war was over. Are you writing a book or something”?
Well, I am writing my stories while my mind is still relatively sharp and my memories are intact. At age 83 I don’t know how long I will be able to continue to write. I have had 11 surgeries since retirement. The last one was really scary. It was brain surgery.
Yes, and I am writing these little stories for my two remaining children who have expressed interest in them. I missed the chance to share this part of my life with my oldest daughter, a Navy veteran, whom we lost eight years ago.
Also, I am writing for other Vietnam Veterans. Reading them might just help someone who still struggles emotionally with their own memories.
Or, it might just be that I am an old man and enjoy a walk down memory lane from time to time.

When I read my story posted here I noticed one typo and don’t know how to correct it. “hears” should be heard.
